Flood fury: 8 more NDRF teams airlifted to Vadodara

With the flood situation worsening in Western Coast, eight more National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were airlifted from Kolkata to Vadodara on Saturday following the severity of the flood situation in Maharashtra. Till now, NDRF teams have rescued about 1,800 stranded people and evacuated 87 persons to safer places in Maharashtra.

New Delhi: Eight more teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were airlifted from Kolkata to Vadodara on Saturday following the severity of the flood situation in Maharashtra. With this, the total number of NDRF teams being deployed for relief and rescue operations in Maharashtra touched 34. On Friday, eight NDRF teams have been airlifted from the Odisha base to Maharashtra.

Heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its adjacent coastal districts has caused flooding in various districts of Maharashtra. The NDRF teams have been deployed in Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Raigad, Thane, Palghar, Satara, Sangli, Sindhudurg, Nagpur and Pune for rescue and relief operations. "A 24×7 NDRF control room in Delhi is closely monitoring the situation and is in close coordination with the state authorities concerned," said an NDRF spokesperson.

Till now, NDRF teams have rescued about 1,800 stranded people and evacuated 87 persons to safer places. "NDRF team also retrieved 52 dead bodies from the various landslides sites and extensive searches are still going on for missing persons," the spokesperson said. NDRF rescuers are continuously engaged in rescue and relief work and providing help to flood-affected people.

"Besides, for immediate response during the flood in any part of the country, total 149 NDRF teams are pre-positioned across various parts of the country for saving human lives," the spokesperson added.
