WATCH: 130 children hospitalised with high fever in WB's Jalpaiguri

Some 130 children were admitted to Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital with high fever and dysentery, a health department official said. Some of the affected also belonged to Coochbehar district. Two of them were later shifted to North Bengal Medical College as their condition deteriorated.

Jalpaiguri: At least 130 children were admitted to Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital with high fever and dysentery, a health department official said on Monday. Some of the affected children also belonged to Coochbehar district. Two of them were later shifted to North Bengal Medical College as their condition deteriorated.

A team of visiting doctors said, "There may be Dengue, Chikungunya or Japanese encephalitis. But we will send swabs and blood samples to Kolkata. There will also be tests at this hospital."

Earlier, the affected children were all tested negative for COVID-19 tests. A five-member team from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital has arrived in Jalpaiguri.

The team visited the childrens' ward and examined the patients. They also held meetings with district health officials.

Samples are being sent to the School of Tropical Medicine of Medical College in Kolkata to find out the cause of the fever.
