Badaun (Uttar Pradesh): In a shocking incident of double murder, two children were brutally murdered on Tuesday evening in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun by a barber, who was later shot dead by the police, officials said. The incident took place in Baba Colony when the two children were playing on the terrace of a residential building.
"Today evening an unfortunate incident took place in which two children were killed. The police reached the spot and the accused tried to escape. We chased the accused. He fired at the police and was killed in retaliatory fire. The accused died on the spot. The police are investigating the case," Bareilly Inspector-General of Police Rakesh Kumar said.
The IG said that the children were playing on the terrace when the accused came, waited for some time and then went up to the terrace and killed them by slitting their necks with a sharp weapon. The accused has been identified as Sajid, aged between 25-30, who ran a salon at a distance of about 150 meters from Chowki Mandi Committee of Police Station Civil Line area.
The double-murder caused shock and rage among the locals, who set the shop of the accused on fire. In the meantime, police launched a search operation and shot dead the accused Sajid.
Police investigation has revealed that the accused used to often visit the house of the victims. On the day of the incident, he came home to have tea saying he had a headache, police said. Police said that the accused went to the house of the victims where he demanded Rs 5,000 from the children's mother for the delivery of his wife.
