Musunuru (Andhra Pradesh): Six people died and over 20 were injured in an accident involving two trucks and a private bus at Musunuru toll plaza in Nellore district early on Saturday, said police.
According to police, The accident occurred around 2 am today when a truck carrying two oxen heading to Srikalahasti was hit from behind by another truck carrying iron. the second truck then rammed into the bus coming from the opposite direction on the other side of the road.
"The driver of the iron-laden truck lost control of the vehicle and rammed the private bus coming in the opposite direction," Kavali sub-divisional police officer Venkata Ramana said.
The front portion of the bus was badly mangled in the collision. Police rushed to the spot and launched rescue work. Four people died on the spot, he said adding two others died at the Nellore government hospital.
The bus, belonging to private travels, was on its way to Hyderabad from Chennai. It was carrying 42 passengers The accident led to a huge traffic jam on the highway. Vehicles heading towards Vijayawada from Nellore were caught in a two-km long jam.
Governor S. Abdul Nazeer has expressed his anguish and profound grief over the accident. He offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. A case has been registered.
