Chandigarh:The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won three key bypolls in Punjab, including Gidderbaha, Derababa Nanak, and Chabbewal, while suffering a setback in the prestige Barnala constituency, which was claimed by Congress. The results of the bypolls, held on November 20, were announced on Saturday.
Gidderbaha: AAP Triumphs Over Congress
AAP's Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon won the Gidderbaha assembly seat, defeating Congress's Amrita Warring by a significant margin of 21,969 votes. Dhillon garnered 71,644 votes, while Warring, wife of Congress Punjab chief Amrinder Sinhj Raja Warring, secured 49,675 votes. The BJP's Kewal Singh Dhillon trailed with 17, 958 votes.
Dera Baba Nanak: AAP's Gurdeep Singh Randhawa Defeats Congress
In Dera Baba Nanak, AAP's Gurdeep Singh Randhawa emerged victorious, defeating Congress's Jatinder Kaur by a margin of 5,699 votes. Randhawa secured 59,104 votes, while Kaur, wife of Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, garnered 53,405 votes. The BJP's Ravi Karan Singh Kahlon was a distant third with 6,505 votes.
Chabbewal: AAP clinches SC Seat with Big Margin
In Chabbewal, AAP candidate Ishank Kumar won the seat vacated by his father, Raj Kumar Chabbewal, by a massive margin of 28,690 votes. Ishank secured 51,904 votes, while Congress's Ranjit Kumar earned 23,214 votes. The BJP's Sohan Singh Thandal finished a distant third with 8,692 votes.
Barnala: Congress Makes Strong Comeback
In the closely contested Barnala seat, Congress's Kuldeep Singh Dhillon won, defeating AAP's Harinder Singh Dhaliwal by 2,157 votes. Dhillon secured 28,254 votes, while Dhaliwal received 26,097 votes. The BJP's Kewal Singh Dhillon finished third with 17,958 votes. The win gives Congress a total of 17 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly.
