Jammu: At least two policemen were killed in a firing incident in Udhampur district on Sunday morning, police said. The incident took place when the cops were on the way to the Reasi district from north Kashmir in a departmental vehicle, they said.
According to a police spokesperson, the incident happened at around 6:30 am on Sunday near Rehambal Police Station when the two policemen—both from Sopore in the north Kashmir Baramulla district—were on their way to the Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) Talwara in Reasi.
“Initial investigation into the firing suggests it is a case of fratricide and suicide. Both policemen suffered fatal bullet injuries and succumbed later,” the spokesperson said.
According to officials, the driving constable and a head constable were killed in the incident, while a selection-grade policeman who was also in the vehicle escaped unharmed and is being questioned.
