Malappuram:A 36-year-old cop allegedly died by suicide here in Kerala, police said on Monday.
Vineeth, a Thunderbolt commando serving in the district’s Special Operation Group (SOG), was found dead in the bathroom of his quarters on Sunday. Thunderbolt force is primarily engaged in anti-Maoist combing operations.
A native of Wayanad district, Vineeth was reportedly upset about “not getting leave despite multiple requests.” However, police are yet to confirm whether this was the reason behind his extreme step.
“He was found dead by shooting himself. The reason for the extreme step is yet to be ascertained,” a police officer said. The body was shifted to a nearby government hospital for post-mortem, and inquest procedures have been completed.
Meanwhile, T Siddique, an MLA, claimed that Vineeth had sent a message to a relative before his death, alleging atrocities within the battalion. Siddique stated that the message specifically accused Assistant Commandant Ajith. The MLA has demanded a judicial inquiry into the circumstances leading to Vineeth’s death.
Siddique further criticized the Home Department, blaming it for failing to address the pressures faced by Kerala police personnel. He alleged that the force operates under extreme stress and accused authorities of human rights violations. Siddique also urged the government to ensure the safety and welfare of Vineeth’s family.
