Bijapur: A 25-year-old man was killed by Naxalites in this district of Chhattisgarh allegedly on suspicion of being a police informer, officials said.
The Naxalites allegedly killed the deceased Kummesh Kunjam, a native of Daler village in Bhairamgarh, by strangulation him, a senior official told ETV Bharat on Sunday, citing the preliminary investigation. He claimed that the assailants didn’t use any weapon while committing the murder.
Kummesh’s body was found this morning on Chihka-Tindodi road under the jurisdiction of Bhairamgarh Police Station, he said.
Police said after killing Kummesh, the Naxalites dropped pamphlets in the area accusing him of being a police informer. “We have seized the pamphlets and started searching the area for more clues. A manhunt has also been launched to nab the culprits,” they said.
In a similar incident in October, another man, 35-year-old Dinesh Pujari, was allegedly killed by Naxalites with sharp weapons and strewn pamphlets accusing him of being a police informer.
Over 50 Killed By Naxalites This Year
Meanwhile, the official figures revealed that the Naxalites have killed more than 50 people in the Bastar division of the state in 2024 so far. The deaths were mostly reported in seven districts of the conflict-hit region, raising serious concern for the police and other security agencies.
Last week, the security forces claimed to have achieved a breakthrough by arresting four Naxalites during an anti-Naxal operation in Bijapur. The arrests were made near the forest of the Pondum village, where forces also recovered a large cache of explosives.
