14 Killed, 21 Injured as Pick-Up Vehicle Overturns in Madhya Pradesh's Dindori

Dindori (Madhya Pradesh):In a horrific road accident, at least 14 people have died and several others were injured after a pickup vehicle they were traveling in overturned in Madhya Pradesh's Dindori in the wee hours of Thursday Feb 29, sources said.

According to police, the road accident took place at Badjhar Ghat under Shahpura police station area limits of Dindori when the people were returning from a baby shower programme.

Soon after getting information about the incident, the police and other officials rushed to the spot to launch a rescue operation. The bodies were retrieved from the accident spot and sent for post-mortem while the injured were admitted to community health center in Shahpura where they are receiving treatment, an official said.

The accident comes six days after another horrific road accident took place on the Rewa-Satna border in Madhya Pradesh. In that accident, a speeding cement-laden truck hit three buses parked on the side of a road leading to the death of 14 people and injuries to 60 others.

According to the police, the mishap took place outside a tunnel near Barkhada village and people in the buses were returning from the 'Kol Mahakumbh' in Satna city. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed grief over the accident. In a post on X, the Prime Minister had said, "The bus accident in Sidhi, MP is anguishing. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I wish the injured a quick recovery. The MP government is providing all possible assistance to all those affected."

The government had announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
