Kondagaon: A fun-filled school trip ended in tragedy in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district after a private bus carrying 60 passengers, including 50 school students, collided head-on with a truck in the wee hours of Monday, leading to death of two persons.
The deceased include a teacher and the bus driver while 12 students have sustained injuries in the mishap.
As per reports, the accident occurred near Chikalputi village on NH-30 under the City Kotwali police station limits. Police said, students from a government school in Kevat Tola village of Mohla Manpur district, had gone on a trip to Bastar and Dantewada districts in a private bus. While returning, the bus collided with a truck at around 2am, killing the driver and the teacher, while 12 students were left injured.
Receiving information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured students to Kondagaon District Hospital. The condition of four students is said to be critical.
Kondagaon Police has registered a case and further investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the mishap.
Sources said there were 60 people onboard the bus when the mishap occurred. The passengers included 50 school children, five teachers, one peon, and three civilians. "All of them were returning to Mohla Manpur after picnic trip in Chitrakoot and Tirathgarh. Eight children are under treatment at the Kondagaon district hospital, while four seriously injured students have been shifted to Raipur for better treatment. The administration has arranged a new bus and sent the remaining 46 people to Mohla Manpur," informed Dr RK Singh, Kondagaon CMHO.
Meanwhile, expressing grief over the incident, Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo said, "Whatever happened is extremely sad. The district administration has been instructed to make better arrangements for treatment of those injured. I pray to God for speedy recovery of the injured children and provide strength to the bereaved families."
