New Delhi: A huge blast took place near a CRPF school in Prashant Vihar area in Delhi's Rohini on Sunday morning in which the school wall and nearby shops were damaged but no one was injured, officials of the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said. High alert is sounded in the national capital following the incident.
The NIA, NSG and NDRF teams rushed to the spot on receiving information. The National Security Guard (NSG) Commandos came with sniffer dogs and carried out search operations at the blast site located at Sector 14, Rohini. A bomb disposal squad and a police forensic team have begun search operations at the spot. A fire brigade team reached the spot immediately after getting the alert.
The wall of the school, nearby shops and a car were damaged, officials said. "We received a call regarding a blast near the boundary wall of CRPF school at 7.50 am. We immediately rushed two fire engines to the spot. There was no fire and no one was injured due to the blast, so our vehicle returned," the DFS officials said. The FSL sources said that the material used in the explosion resembled that of a crude bomb but clarity would emerge only after full reports are received.
The affected area has been cordoned off. The Special Cell of the Delhi Police anti-terror unit also reached the spot. The forensic team and crime unit are at the spot to collect samples, a police officer said, adding that it could be due to a firecracker. They are checking the CCTV footage from nearby locations. The sewer lines near the blast site are also being checked. The PCR call in this regard was first received at 7.47 am.
