Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar at Raj Bhavan today (Sunday) and staked his claim to form the government again, a day after his party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led alliance won the State Assembly Elections.
Hemant Soren staked his claim after the INDIA bloc members unanimously elected him as the legislature party leader.
Soren resigned from the CM post and will be the acting CM of Jharkhand till he takes oath again on November 28.
The Governor accepted Soren's resignation and asked him to continue discharging his duties until an alternative arrangement is formed. After this, the delegation of India Alliance submitted a letter of support from the elected MLAs to the Governor for forming the government in Jharkhand state under the leadership of Hemant Soren. The Governor appointed Hemant Soren as the nominated Chief Minister of Jharkhand state and invited him to form the government.
Talking to the media after meeting the Governor, Hemant Soren said that he has staked his claim to form the government. The Governor has invited him to form the government. He will take oath on November 28. He said that representatives of all the allies were present with him while submitting the letter of support to the Governor. However, Hemant Soren did not say anything about who will be in the cabinet. On the question of journalists, he said that it will be informed soon.
JMM steered the INDIA bloc to victory with 56 seats in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) won 34 seats, with its allies winning 22 seats. Among JMM's allies, the Congress won 16 seats, RJD four seats, and CPI-ML two seats.
The BJP-led NDA won just 24 seats out of the 81 assembly constituencies including 21 by the saffron party, and one each by its allies AJSU, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and JD-U.
