Narayanpur:A soldier was martyred in an encounter that broke out between security personnel and Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Wednesday, a senior police official said.
The gunfight erupted around 1 pm in the forest of Abujhmad area when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxal operation, he said. Personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG) from Narayanpur and Kondagaon districts, and the Border Security Force (BSF) were involved in the operation that began on Tuesday, he said.
It is understood that one head constable Birendra Kumar Sori has been martyred in the encounter with Naxals. He was appointed as a constable in the Narayanpur district force in 2010. After that, he was promoted to the post of head constable for showing indomitable courage in the Naxal operation in 2018.
The mortal remains of Birendra Kumar Sori will be brought to Narayanpur district and he will given a gun salute on December 5 at around 11 am. After that, his mortal remains will be sent to Kanker for last rites. The martyred soldier was 36 years old. As per the process, Sori's kin will be informed about his demise, sources said.
Senior police officials have expressed grief over the killing of the soldiers.
