New Delhi: During the budget session of the Delhi Assembly, there was a huge uproar when Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs protested on the issue of removing the pictures of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar from the Chief Minister's Office and the offices of ministers in the Delhi Secretariat. During the Lieutenant Governor's address, the AAP MLAs started raising slogans of 'Jai Bhim' and 'Bhagat Singh Amar Rahein'.

Taking a tough stand on this, the Assembly Speaker ordered the expulsion of several MLAs, including Leader of Opposition Atishi, from the House for the whole day. After the expulsion, AAP MLAs gathered at the statue of Dr. Ambedkar at the Assembly premises and protested. They alleged that the BJP has deliberately insulted the legacy of Constitution maker Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and freedom fighter Bhagat Singh by removing their pictures. AAP MLAs continued to raise slogans of 'Jai Bhim' and 'Inquilab Zindabad' in the House.

Atishi attacks BJP: After being expelled from the House, senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi minister Atishi held a press conference and launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She said that the BJP has shown its true face to the whole country. The pictures of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh have been removed from the Chief Minister's Office and the ministers' chambers of the Delhi government and replaced them with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Atishi asked whether the BJP thinks that Narendra Modi has become bigger than Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Can Narendra Modi replace Ambedkar? Atishi alleged that this is the same BJP whose leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had mocked Ambedkar in Parliament. She said that they will take Ambedkar's name again and again because the same Constitution, which was written by Ambedkar, has given us the right to speak.

Demanded answer from BJP: Outside the assembly, AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar also questioned the BJP and asked what was the reason for removing the pictures of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh from the offices of ministers. Showing pictures, he said that in the office of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, where earlier there were pictures of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh, now there are pictures of President Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The picture replacement issue has now become a cause of political controversy. The Aam Aadmi Party has attacked the BJP, seeing it as an insult to Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh, while the BJP has not yet given any official response to this. AAP alleged that the BJP is trying to erase the legacy of Dalits and martyrs.
