Brisbane:Jasprit Bumrah became the Indian with most Test wickets in Australia as he surpassed former India skipper Kapil Dev's tally. Bumrah achieved the significant milestone on Day 5 of the ongoing third Test between India and Australia at the iconic 'The Gabba' on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
Bumrah now has 52 wickets to his name on Australia soil, one more than Kapil Dev's tally of 51.
Bumrah removed Marnus Labuschagne to claim his second scalp and to achieve the feat. The 31-year-old has now taken 52 wickets from 20 innings, with a bowling strike rate of 41.07 that include three five-wicket hauls. Kapil Dev has 51 wickets to his name with a bowling average of 24.58 and a strike rate of 61.50. Dev has taken five Test fifers in Australia.
On Day 2 of the Gabba Test, Bumrah became the Indian bowler with the most five-wicket hauls in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia). He achieved a total of eight five-wicket hauls in these countries, surpassing Kapil Dev, who had recorded seven five-wicket hauls across the same four countries.
The right-arm pacer is just 7 wickets away from completing 200 Test wicket, becoming the sixth pacer and 12th Indian to achieve the milestone. He currently has 193 wickets to his name in the longest format of the game.
