Madras HC Refuses Interim Ban On Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan, Film Set For October 10 Release

A petition seeking a ban on Rajinikanth's upcoming film Vettaiyan has been filed in the Madurai High Court, citing concerns over dialogues promoting encounter killings. However, the court has refused to impose an interim ban, opting to send notices to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the producers.

Hyderabad: A petition has been filed in the Madurai branch of the Madras High Court, demanding a ban on Rajinikanth's much-anticipated film Vettaiyan, set for release on October 10. The petition, filed by Madurai resident Palanivelu, argues that specific dialogues in the film's trailer promoting encounter killings should either be removed or muted. Palanivelu claims these dialogues could influence public perception, leading to the acceptance of illegal encounters.

The trailer, which showcases Rajinikanth as an encounter specialist, has sparked both public interest and controversy. The narrative revolves around the protagonist's struggle to bring justice following the rape and murder of a woman, with the film exploring themes of law enforcement and justice. The trailer also hints at a clash of ideologies, with Amitabh Bachchan portraying a character opposing such extreme methods.

In response to the petition, Justices Subramanian and Victoria Gowri, who heard the case, refused to grant an interim ban on the film. They have instead issued notices to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and Lyca Productions, asking for clarification on the matter. The court has adjourned the hearing, and the film remains on track for its October release.

The star-studded cast of Vettaiyan includes Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Fahadh Faasil, Abhirami, and Ritika Singh, with music composed by Anirudh.
