Pithoragarh:A helicopter carrying Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar made an emergency landing in a village near Munsiyari in Uttarakhand due to bad weather on Wednesday, an official said.

According to sources, all the onboarded passengers in the helicopter, including CEC, are safe, which was also confirmed by District Disaster Management Officer Bhupendra Mahar and Superintendent of Police (SP) Lokeshwar Singh.

Pithoragarh District Magistrate Vinod Girish Goswami said the chopper, which was on its way to Milam Glacier, left at around 1 pm. Subsequently, due to the cloudy weather and low visibility, it made an emergency landing in Ralam village at around 1.30 pm, he added.

"I have talked to the CEC twice. They are all safe. If the weather clears up, they will be taken back to Munsiyari, and if it does not, they will rest at the ITBP camp near Ralam," the DM said.

Uttarakhand's Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Kumar Jogdade and three others were in the helicopter along with the CEC.

DDMO Mahar said that the pilot had successfully landed the helicopter in a field with prudence. He further said that soon after the police administration received the information, the team immediately reached the spot and found all the people on board were safe.

SP Singh said that the police had information about his arrival, so the team was already present on the spot.
