New Delhi:Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital here, sources said on Thursday. She is doing fine and is likely to be discharged on Friday, they said.
Gandhi had turned 78 in December 2024. A source said she was admitted on Thursday morning.
She is under observation of a team of doctors, the source said.
She was admitted at 8.30 am due to stomach-related issues, the hospital said in a statement, released later in the night said.
"She underwent a routine check-up and is now stable and is under observation," the hospital said.
“She was admitted today for some abdomen-related issue. However, there is no major concern and in all likelihood she will be discharged by tomorrow morning,” Dr Ajay Swaroop, chairman- Board of Management, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, was quoted in some media reports.
She is under the care of Dr Samiran Nundy, gastroenterology specialist, the report said.
Gandhi's last public appearance came last week when she was attended Rajya Sabha. She was present in the Budget session of Parliament and participated in the debate. In the Rajya Sabha, she slammed the government for the four-year delay in conducting the census while expressing concerns that it might not be conducted this year as well.
On September 02, 2023, she was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after having fever-like symptoms.
Her son, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, visited the hospital. (Additional inputs added from other agencies)
