New Delhi: In an initiative for rural empowerment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today presided over the largest-ever distribution of property cards under the SVAMITVA Scheme. The event, organized by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, saw 65 lakh rural citizens receiving legal ownership documents in a single day, revolutionizing rural governance and fostering economic empowerment.
The virtual ceremony witnessed participation from key leaders, including Union Minister of Panchayati Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Minister of State Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, and Secretary Vivek Bharadwaj. Governors, Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, and local representatives joined the event, which spanned over 50,000 villages across 10 states and two Union Territories, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.
Prime Minister Modi, reflecting on the five-year journey of the SVAMITVA Scheme, highlighted its impact on over 2.25 crore rural citizens, with more than 1.5 crore property cards issued since its launch in April 2020. Addressing the beneficiaries, he emphasized the importance of property rights in alleviating poverty and driving rural development.
“Today, 65 lakh families have received their property cards, a step that not only empowers them but also paves the way for economic growth,” said the Prime Minister. He cited a United Nations study, underscoring the global challenge of property rights and its connection to poverty reduction. “With legal documents, rural families now have access to bank loans, enabling them to start businesses and invest in their future,” he added.
The Prime Minister interacted with beneficiaries who shared their experiences of transformation. For instance, Manohar Mewada from Madhya Pradesh described how the scheme resolved long-standing property disputes, while Rachna from Rajasthan shared how her property card enabled her to secure a loan for expanding her small business.
