Mumbai: As counting of votes concludes for the high-stakes Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024, NCP candidate from Bandra East seat Zeeshan Siddique, the son of late Baba Siddique lost the seat against Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Varun Sardesai.
As per the latest real-time data compiled by the Election Commission of India, Varun secured 57708 votes while Zeeshan got 46343 votes after the conclusion of 19 rounds of counting thereby giving a winning lead of 11365 to the Sena candidate. MNS candidate Truptti Bala Sawant ended up as a distant third with 16074 votes.
The Bandra East or Vandre East seat in suburban Mumbai is of prime importance as Matoshree, the residence of the Thackeray family, is situated under it.
In the current polls, it was a battle between Varun Sardesai of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Zeeshan Siddique, son of late Congress and NCP leader Baba Siddique, who was shot dead by three assailants on October 12 this year. Zeeshan was contesting on an NCP ticket and has a well-connected network in the area. Pitted against him was Sardesai, cousin of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, and someone, who has extensively worked with the Yuva Sena, the youth wing of the party.
Sardesai for the record has completed his post graduation from an the United States and joined the Shiv Sena, as he got impressed with the views of late Balasaheb Thackeray, the founder of the party.
