Maharashtra Election Results 2024 | Rohit Pawar Retains Karjat-Jamkhed After Neck-And-Neck Fight With BJP

The Karjat-Jamkhed seat on Saturday witnessed a tough fight between NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) candidate Rohit Pawar, seeking a re-election and BJP's Prof. Ram Shankar Shinde.

Ahmednagar: After a close fight with BJP, Rohit Pawar of NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) has finally won from the Karjat-Jamkhed Assembly constituency in the Ahmednagar district, by a margin of 1,243 votes.

The initial rounds of counting saw Rohit, Sharad Pawar's grandson, in the lead but BJP's Ram Shankar Shinde overtook him a few rounds later. Again, towards the end of the counting process, Rohit took the lead.

As per the Election Commission of India data, after the final 27th round of counting, Rohit secured 1,27,676 votes against his nearest rival Shinde, who bagged 1,26,433 votes.

Rohit got elected as an MLA from the Karjat-Jamkhed seat in the 2019 Assembly polls. After Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar caused a vertical split in the NCP, founded by his uncle Sharad Pawar, Rohit decided to stay with his grandfather, the senior Pawar.

Somnath Haribhau Bhailume, fielded by Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi and Dattatray Atmaram Sonwane of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) secured the fourth and eighth positions with 1,251 and 594 votes respectively.

Rohit Pawar, who is also the President of Maharashtra Cricket Association (MVA) started a cricket academy in his constituency and even got India skipper Rohit Sharma to inaugurate it.

Prof Ram Shinde has gone all guns blazing against Rohit and he now has the support of NCP led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Rohit has the support of Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT).
