Kolkata: The City of Joy woke up to a shocker on Wednesday morning when the bodies of three persons from the same family were recovered from a flat in Tangra on the eastern fringe of Kolkata. The deceased include two women and a minor girl.
Commissioner Manoj Verma said the women have been identified as Romi Deyt (44), Sudeshna Dey (39) and Priyamvada Dey (14). There were wounds from sharp weapons on the neck, chest and limbs of the women and all three had their wrists slit. Romi and Sudeshna’s lips had deep wounds.
Sources in Lalbazar, the headquarters of Kolkata Police, said the bodies were found in a flat on 21/C Atul Sur Road in Tangra by the locals who reported it to the police who reached the spot and collected the bodies. A mobile phone has been found on the spot.
CP Verma, Joint CP (Crime) Rupesh Kumar and other senior officials reached the spot. The forensic team was also called in. Meanwhile, three of the same family met with an accident on the same day near Abhishikta Crossing on the EM Bypass. All have been admitted to a private hospital nearby.
After questioning, police said the two incidents were related and the injured have been identified as Prasun Dey, Pranay Dey and a minor boy, Pratip Dey, son of Pranay. Prasun and Pranay are brothers and are the husbands of Romi and Sudeshna, respectively.
In the preliminary investigation, police came to know the family members had a sweet dish at the dinner on Tuesday after which the wrists of the victims were slit. The reason for their death will be revealed by the arrival of the autopsy report.
