Uchana Kalan:Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader and former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala lost from the Uchana Kalan seat in the Jind district of the state.

As per data provided by the Election Commission of India, BJP candidate Devender Chatar Bhuj Attri won from the Uchana Kalan seat by a margin of just 32 votes. While Attri polled 48968 votes, Congress nominee Brijendra Singh polled 48936 votes and stood in second place. Dushyant Chautala, a former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister, polled just 7950 votes.

Amarjeet Singh, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar)(Simarjit Singh Mann) candidate bagged only 308 votes. The Republican Party of India (A) nominee Master Ajit Arya polled just 192 votes while the AAP candidate Pawan Fauji managed to get 2495 votes, according to the ECI data.

A voter turnout of 75.44 per cent was recorded in the Uchana Kalan constituency when voting was held on October 5.

Chautala was banking on his connection with the masses but he suffered a defeat. The fight was mainly between JJP, BJP and Congress in which the ruling party emerged triumphant. In the 2019 polls, Chautala was elected from the seat defeating BJP's Prem Lata while BSP candidate Samarjit stood third. Chautala polled a total of 92, 504 votes in the 2019 polls.

The defeat is a huge setback for both Dushyant Chautala and his party - the JJP. The party needs to regroup and introspect on the defeat.
