New Delhi:Former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Vijay Shankar died on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. He was 76 and according to his family, his body was donated to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as per his last wish.
Vijay Shankar was a 1969 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He served as CBI director from December 12, 2005, to July 31, 2008. During his tenure, the CBI investigated several important cases, including the most talked about Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case. Apart from this, he also handled the extradition process of gangster Abu Salem and actress Monica Bedi and played an important role in the investigation of the Telgi scam.
