Ranchi:1989 batch IPS officer Ajay Singh has taken charge as the 15th Director General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand. Ajay Kumar Singh has been appointed as the DGP of Jharkhand for the second time. The Election Commission had given instructions to remove ex-DGP Anurag Gupta from the post of acting DGP.
The Jharkhand government, on the instructions of the Election Commission, has removed the Anurag Gupta from the post of acting DGP and appointed Ajay Kumar Singh as the DGP of the state again.
Who is Ajay Singh
1989 batch IPS officer Ajay Kumar Singh is considered to be of very calm and gentle nature, his specialty is to complete any work after doing homework. Before joining the post of DGP, he was also the MD cum DG ACB of Police Housing.
He has served in CID, Special Branch, Railways in the state at the rank of ADG. At the same time, he has also served as SP in many districts including Hazaribagh, Dhanbad. In his 32-year police career, Ajay Kumar Singh has also been the SP of cities like Muzaffarpur, Lakhisarai, Purnia, Munger in Bihar. His first posting was in 1991 as ASP in Ramgarh district of Jharkhand.
Before Anurag Gupta was made DGP for the first time, the Jharkhand government had sent the names of 1988 batch IPS officer Satyanarayan Pradhan, 1989 batch Ajay Kumar Singh, Ajay Bhatnagar, 1990 batch Anil Palta, Anurag Gupta, 1992 batch IPS Prashant Singh, Rajkumar Mallik, 1993 batch IPS Murari Lal Meena, MS Bhatia to UPSC for the selection of DGP. IPS officer SN Pradhan, posted on central deputation, refused to come to the state, so his name was not considered.
