New Delhi:The ruling BJP-led NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc parties reached a broad agreement on Monday to break the ongoing deadlock in the parliamentary and facilitate the smooth transaction of business in both the Houses. The agreement was reached after ruckus over the Adani row and other issues forced adjournment of the parliament once again.

Since the start of the winter session, the parliament has been witnessing unruly scenes with the opposition benches raising pandemonium on a variety of issues such as the US allegations against Adani Group, unemployment, inflation, Manipur violence and Sambhal unrest.

Following this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held a meeting with the floor leaders of parties on both sides in which they came to a broader agreement to ensure smooth running of the parliament. On the latest understanding between the ruling and opposition alliances, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who attended the meeting held by the Speaker, expressed confidence that both the Houses will function smoothly from Tuesday.

The opposition parties sought discussions on the Constitution in both the Houses to mark the 75th anniversary of its adoption. As part of this, there will be a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the Constitution on December 13 and 14, and it will be followed up by a discussion in the Rajya Sabha on December 16 and 17.

Speaking to mediapersons, Kiren Rijiju expressed confidence that the Parliament will function smoothly from Tuesday.

On the other hand, there has been a gap between the opposition parties on the prioritisation of the issues to be debated in the parliament. While the Congress is demanding a discussion on the Adani row, some other opposition parties are emphasising the need to discuss other issues like price rise and alleged allocation of meagre funds to opposition-ruled states.

The TMC, a member of INDIA bloc, had not joined the alliance partners to chalk out the floor strategy in the winter session.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, protests continued to rock parliament over the Adani allegations row and other issues, forcing adjournment of both Houses for Tuesday once again.
