1. 00:00 Everton caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson arrives for news conference
2. 00:13 SOUNDBITE (English): Duncan Ferguson, Everton caretaker manager:
(About Marco Silva's sacking)
"It is not nice when a manager loses his job. We all felt for him. Everybody at the club supported him as best we could. And it is unfortunate that he has lost his job. But I think the results determine that, don't they? So, no, it was a sad time."
Reporter: How have the players taken it as well?
"Yeah mixed, as you can imagine. Nobody likes to see a manager lose their job, me included. No, the players were... it was a mixed feeling. But we have got to try to pick them up now. That is the great thing about football. There is always another game, isn't there?"
3. 00:51 SOUNDBITE (English): Duncan Ferguson, Everton caretaker manager:
(About when he found out about Marco Silva's sacking)
"I found out last night (Thursday). I don't know the actual time, it was maybe 7 o'clock (PM, local time) or something at night. Obviously they told me that the manager (Marco Silva) had lost his job and they wanted me to step in. Of course, I never hesitated. So, yeah, it was a proud moment for myself. It was exciting."
4. 01:11 SOUNDBITE (English): Duncan Ferguson, Everton caretaker manager:
(About what was said to the players in their meeting with Everton owner Farhad Moshiri)
"I had no idea to be honest with you, because I was not in the meeting. To be perfectly honest with you, I was not in that. So I am not quite sure what got said. All that got said to me was that I was stepping in and that was it."
5. 01:27 SOUNDBITE (English): Duncan Ferguson, Everton caretaker manager:
(About his feelings ahead of his first match in charge of Everton)
"It is an incredibly proud moment for me. Everybody knows how I feel about the club and it (he) will be incredibly proud, emotional, nervous, excited and obviously looking for a positive result (against Chelsea)."
6. 01:47 SOUNDBITE (English): Duncan Ferguson, Everton caretaker manager:
(About what he has to do to turn Everton's miserable form around)
"Yeah, obviously it is a difficult task as it is such a short period of time. But we have got to try and motivate the players and make sure that they know what is needed to play for this club. So we need to make sure that we are up for it - up for the fight, up for the match. That is what we are trying to do at the moment."
Reporter: What is the key element then that you feel you have to put right within that side at the moment?
"Well it is confidence, isn't it? You are losing games and getting beat by Liverpool 5-2, and that does not help you, does it? So we need to try to make sure that we can get all of the players on-side, get them in a good frame of mind, and pick them up quickly, because in football there is always another big game coming, isn't there? And there is not much bigger than Chelsea at home."
Reporter: So what has your message been to the players?
"That really - move on. We need to move on. Unfortunately, that is football and we need to look to the next game and we are desperate for points, aren't we? So that has really been the message. Move on and let's go for it on Saturday."
Reporter: How was that training session today (Friday)?
"Yeah it was sharp, fine, the boys seemed OK. They trained well and it never looked like there were any problems."
7. 02:54 SOUNDBITE (English): Duncan Ferguson, Everton caretaker manager:
(About the job facing the new manager who comes in at Everton)
"Yeah, well it is a fantastic club, isn't it? Who would not want to be Everton manager? So it is a really attractive club. We are not many points off mid-table, so if we can string a few results together, I am sure we can start climbing that table. And it is a great job, so yeah, I am sure there will be many, many top managers looking for this job."
8. 03:18 SOUNDBITE (English): Duncan Ferguson, Everton caretaker manager:
(About whether he would want the Everton manager's job full-time)
"I am a coach at the moment, you know what I mean, so I don't think that is something I am really considering at this moment in time. I think the club will find a real top manager and attract them to the club. Of course, it is a dream of mine to be the Everton manager, but I am also realistic. My main focus is tomorrow (Saturday), and that is all my remit is - tomorrow, to try and get that result (against Chelsea)."
Reporter: So whoever comes in, you would like to work with in the future moving forward as well?
"I would love to work with them, because I believe I am a loyal guy. I have been loyal to the club and I would love to work with the new manager coming in. But that will be up to him."
9. 03:57 SOUNDBITE (English): Duncan Ferguson, Everton caretaker manager:
(About Frank Lampard's Chelsea)
"They are doing a great job. And obviously, they are a top them, aren't they? That is why they are where they are in the league. We are not quite there yet. We just have to make sure that we can compete - compete on every level, make sure we cover every blade of grass, and fight for every ball. That is what we are looking to do. And then we will put our game plan together and hopefully it will come off."

STORYLINE:
Duncan Ferguson said on Friday that Marco Silva's sacking as Everton head coach represents a "sad time" for the club, but was inevitable given their results this season.
Former Everton forward Ferguson, who enjoyed two spells at Goodison Park as a player before he took his place on the first-team coaching staff, has been placed in temporary charge after Silva was axed on Thursday.
Everton, who currently sit in the relegation zone on 14 points, face Chelsea at home on Saturday during a difficult period of fixtures with English Premier League matches against Manchester United and Arsenal to come, and a League Cup fixture with in-form Leicester City.
Ferguson distanced himself from the job on a permanent basis, but said he expects owner Farhad Moshiri to "find a real top manager and attract them to the club".
