పౌరసత్వ సవరణ బిల్లుకు వ్యతిరేకంగా ఈశాన్య రాష్ట్రాల్లో చెలరేగిన ఆందోళనలు హింసాత్మకంగా మారాయి. అసోం గువహటి లాలౌన్‌గావ్‌ ప్రాంతంలో ఆందోళనకారులు పోలీసులపైకి రాళ్లదాడి చేశారు. దీనితో పోలీసులు గాల్లోకి కాల్పులు జరిపారు. ఈ ఘటనలో నలుగురు నిరసనకారులు గాయపడ్డట్లు తెలుస్తోంది.

గువహటిలో నిరవధిక కర్ఫ్యూ విధించినప్పటికీ నిరసనలు కొనసాగుతున్నాయి. ఆందోళనకారులు గువహటి-షిల్లాంగ్ రహదారి వెంబడి పలు దుకాణాలను ధ్వంసం చేశారు. టైర్లకు నిప్పుపెట్టారు. అప్రమత్తమైన సైన్యం గువహటి, దిబ్రూగడ్, జోర్హాత్, తిన్‌సుకియా ప్రాంతాలలో ఫ్లాగ్ మార్చ్ చేపట్టింది. పలుప్రాంతాల్లోనూ నిరసనకారులను చెదరగొట్టేందుకు గాల్లోకి కాల్పులు జరిపింది.

ఆందోళనలు మరింత ఉద్రిక్తం అవుతుండడం వల్ల ముందు జాగ్రత్త చర్యగా అసోంకు ఐదు కంపెనీల సైనిక బలగాలను, త్రిపురకు మూడు కంపెనీల అసోం రైఫిల్స్ బలగాలను తరలించారు .

కర్ఫ్యూ కొనసాగుతున్నప్పటికీ అఖిల అసోం విద్యార్థి సంఘం, క్రిషక్ ముక్తి సంగ్రామ్ సమితి ఆందోళనలకు పిలుపునిచ్చాయి. డిసెంబర్ 12ను బ్లాక్ డేగా ప్రకటించాయి. ప్రధాని మోదీ, అసోం ముఖ్యమంత్రి సర్బానంద సోనోవాల్లు పౌరసత్వ సవరణ బిల్లును తెచ్చి అసోం ప్రజలను వంచించారని ఆగ్రహం వ్యక్తం చేశాయి.
