2. SOUNDBITE (English) Nikesh Patel, actor - on how many times he's since Mike Newell's 1994 film "Four Weddings and a Funeral":
Once in my life, I've seen 'Four Weddings and a Funeral.' Yeah. Yeah. It wasn't a deliberate choice, but I guess I would have been like - was it '95 it came out? I would've been nine or 10 and it just - I've got really vivid memories of being at home and like my mom had it on, on the telly, so it must have been a while after it came out in the cinemas, and finding it really funny, but the scene that she was laughing at was the opening scene, which is just Hugh Grant swearing and swearing wasn't allowed in my house. I was like, 'What's this sweary film that my mom's laughing at?' But yeah, I didn't, I wasn't really aware of it. No, I was aware of I should say, but I hadn't, it's one of those things - thos like cultural like institutions that kind of passed me by. And then I got this job, and I was like, I should probably watch it now because there's a lot of fuss been made about this and I want to see what all the fuss about. And it's like, yeah. You see it and you're like, 'Oh, OK. That's why.'"

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Nikesh Patel, actor - on the line in the show that says his character looks like "Ryan Gosling dipped in caramel":
"Yeah, it's just one of those things where you see it in the script and you kind of go, 'Huh, OK. Well, it could be worse', I guess. But yeah, I don't, I feel like I'm getting, sort of - I'm mutating into Hugh Grant in 'Four Weddings' the more I try and answer this question, so I'm going to stop answering it now. But it was a - it's something that you just have to kind of read and go they're talking about the character, they're not talking about me"

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Nikesh Patel, actor - on playing a wannabe actor:
"It gets weirder with Kash because there's quite a lot of similarities between me and him in that I think back in the day I thought I wanted to pursue a career in sort of finance and that was going to be me for the rest - I was at school going, 'I don't really know what to do, maybe, this would be something I'm good at, that I could be good at.' And then I started studying it. And it's like, this is really boring. My heart's not in it. So maybe - I feel like that's a version of what Kash is going through when we see him in the show, but I think I found my, I found my passion a bit earlier than he did. But, yeah. So that does, it does feel like a lot you can tap into when you're playing that, because. you know, that drive, that passion to to do what you want, rather than something that you feel you should be doing out of a sense of duty or something, I think that speaks to a lot of people now, whether it's, 'Oh, I want to quit my job and be an actor' or whether it's just, 'I'm not quite being fulfilled in the same way.'"

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Nikesh Patel, actor - on working with Natalie Emmanuel while "Game of Thrones" was on:
"What was probably more traumatic is I was watching 'Game of Thrones' while we were filming. So, yeah. No spoilers. But that was that was a trip. But yeah, I was a big fan of her work before we got the chance to work together on this. And I was - I like to think that I was pretty good at not, I wasn't one of those people ahead of the last series coming out that I was fishing for spoilers, but there were - and she was obviously like a complete pro when it came to not giving anything away. But there'd be the odd moment I'd ask something and she'd start answering, and be like, 'Oh no, I'm not sure -' and I was like, 'I don't want to hear about it. I just want to see the series.' But yeah, it was quite interesting getting to speak to her about her experiences on it and find out a bit more."

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Nikesh Patel, actor - on whether there will be another series:
"For me, I think the beauty of it is it's 10 episodes and it tells a story. Whether or not that means that there's room to kind of pick these characters up, I think there is. But I think also in an age where, you know, starting a new series, one of the first questions is like, how long is it? It's 10 episodes and it's done. So I think they, I think Mindy (Kaling) and the writers have really kind of made use of that time."

STORYLINE:
NIKESH PATEL ON TAKING OVER FROM HUGH GRANT IN THE 'FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL' TV SERIES.
New TV series "Four Weddings and a Funeral" turns the lens on a fresh group of friends, including Kash and Maya, played by "London Has Fallen" actor Nikesh Patel and "Game of Thrones"' Natalie Emmanuel.
Like Mike Newell's 1994 hit romantic comedy that inspired it, the show also features nuptials, a goodbye, and the highs and lows of falling in love.
Patel admits he wasn't familiar with the original movie - only watching it after he landed his role.
"It wasn't a deliberate choice, but I guess I would have been like - was it '95 it came out? I would've been nine or 10 and it just - I've got really vivid memories of being at home and like my mom had it on, on the telly, so it must have been a while after it came out in the cinemas, and finding it really funny, but the scene that she was laughing at was the opening scene, which is just Hugh Grant swearing and swearing wasn't allowed in my house. I was like, 'What's this sweary film that my mom's laughing at?'" he smiles.
"It's one of those things - thos like cultural like institutions that kind of passed me by. And then I got this job, and I was like, I should probably watch it now because there's a lot of fuss been made about this and I want to see what all the fuss about. And it's like, yeah. You see it and you're like, 'Oh, OK. That's why.'"
The "Indian Summers" actor also made sure to find time to keep up with "Game of Thrones," while filming "Four Weddings", noting he is "a big fan" of his co-star Emmanuel's performance as as Missandei in the HBO hit.
He insits he resisted the urge to dig for plot spoilers before he had seen the final season.
"She was obviously like a complete pro when it came to not giving anything away.
In the new show, Emmanuel plays Maya, a young communications director for a New York senatorial campaign, who puts her life on pause when a wedding invitation arrives from an old college friend now living in London. Reconnecting with her old crowd pulls her into their personal crises.
Patel plays Kash, a handsome stranger Maya meets at the airport, not realizing their paths will soon be crossing again.
In one line, Kash is referred to as looking like "Ryan Gosling dipped in caramel" - a description that makes Patel raise his eyebrows.
"Yeah, it's just one of those things where you see it in the script and you kind of go, 'Huh, OK. Well, it could be worse', I guess," he shrugs. "It's something that you just have to kind of read and go they're talking about the character, they're not talking about me"
"Four Weddings and a Funeral" has already aired in the U.S. and became available to stream in U.K on StarzPlay on 12 December.
Pondering the question of whether the cast will be back to throw confetti for a second season, Patel says he feels the story in the 10-episode season one is self contained.
"Whether or not that means that there's room to kind of pick these characters up, I think there is. But I think also in an age where, you know, starting a new series, one of the first questions is like, how long is it? It's 10 episodes and it's done. So I think they, I think Mindy (Kaling) and the writers have really kind of made use of that time."
StarzPlay is available through Apple TV, Amazon Prime Viedo channels and Virgin TV.
