Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, regular classes in Kota medical college have been suspended. In medical studies, interaction with patients is considered as an important part which gives clinical experience to students. MBBS students used to get a clinical posting from the second year itself. But due to the pandemic, students are not getting clinical posting.

Kota: As soon as the COVID-19 lockdown was imposed, regular classes in medical colleges were suspended. After which, online classes got started, but due to COVID-19, students are not getting clinical posting in Kota Medical college.

In medical studies, interaction with patients is considered as an important part which gives clinical experience to students. However, the study material is made available by faculty in online studies. But MBBS students used to get a clinical posting from the second year itself, and they have to go to every ward and pay duty. But this time, due to coronavirus, students are not getting clinical posting.

Interaction with the patient is very important for medical students. Even information about body parts, treatment guidelines and investigations are learned in the medical college. In such a situation, Kota Medical students shared problems they faced amid lockdown with ETV Bharat.

Aditi, a Kota resident, pursuing MBBS from Udaipur is now at her home, studying through online classes. Aditi says that the course is being taught through online classes, but doing practicals is a more important part in medical, she added. Due to lockdown, students are missing the clinical posting.

At the same time, some students agree that theoretical studies are better as its more safe staying at home amidst the spreading COVID infection. However, some students are worried about the degree that would get delay.

Harshit Soni, a student of Fourth Year at Kota Medical College, says that the posting can be conducted when it's safe. Department can put a posting college for more time, but this will delay the exam. This will also delay clinical posting and internship, which will delay the MBBS as well.

According to an MBBS final student, HarshVardhan Tiwari, the study material they are getting is complete but the clinical experience is not available. He said that they already have an experience of 3 years before lockdown. Missing 6 months experience won't affect their future.

According to Dr Deepika Mittal, Academic In-charge of Medical College says MBBS second examinations were going on, meantime lockdown was imposed. In such a situation, the practical exam and theory of some children were left. That will be now conducted according to the instructions of RUHS.

More than 900 students are studying in UG in Kota Medical College. Out of these, there are 250 children in the 2019 batch and 150 children in all the other batches. All the online classes are running continuously as per the instructions of MCI and RUHS.
