Madhya Pradesh: In a bid to reduce the usage of plastic, the Betul Municipal Corporation of Madhya Pradesh has started a 'Utensil bank'. This unique bank lends people utensils like plates, spoons, glasses for various functions and occasions.
The motive behind setting up the bank is to help the citizens cut down the use of single-use plastic cutlery and avoid adding to the growing heaps of plastic waste in the city.
Betul Municipal Corporation President Alkesh Arya and CMO Priyanka Singh said, "People dump the plastic plates after the use. After this initiative, the plastic utensils have been replaced with the steel ones which can be used during functions and events in the city."
While the service is free, people have to deposit only the security fee to take the utensils. The important thing to know is that the staff of the municipal corporation has donated their one month salary for this initiative. Alongside this, people have also donated a hundred rupees each from their side.
Currently, the utensil bank has collected a total of three thousand plates and other cutlery items which are being used by the citizens.
According to the officials, this move will discourage people from using single-use plastic products.
